NEW INFORMATION
- Minimum Wage Increase – Please be advised, on January 1, 2018 minimum wage increases in the state of Ohio. Wages go from $8.15/hour to $8.30/hour. Sub-minimum (server wage) goes from $4.08/hour to $4.15/hour. As in years past, this change occurs in the middle of a payroll week. The best way to handle this issue is to run a payroll report at close of business on Sunday, December 31, adjust pay-rates in your computer, and then run a second report at close of business on Wednesday, Janu 3. Then, submit two different pay-rates for any individual who worked the last three days of the pay period.
- Biscuits – We’ve made a change to our biscuit from GFS. This is a minor change. The biscuit itself does not change; however, they will now be ‘pre-sliced’. The purpose for this is to ensure both a consistent product and that they are being warmed properly on the flat-top grill rather than the microwave. Please adjust procedures with the new pre-sliced biscuit if you are currently warming in the microwave. Look for the change in a week or two.
RECURRING TOPICS
- Fall LTO Menu – As in years past, the fall limited time offering menu will conclude on this Sunday, December 24. Please pull fall menus at the close of business on Christmas Eve. If you have an abundance of product and would like to avoid throwing anything away, you may continue the fall LTO through next Sunday, December 31, but may not continue the menu beyond that point.
- Gift Cards – As it is gift card selling season, please ensure your staff is doing all they can to drive gift card sales. While this promotion may not be profitable, it is in the best interest of serving staff and individual stores to sell them. Sales during the slow months of January and February are combated by a high number of gift cards out in the market to be redeemed. Gift Card sales are significantly down on the last several years, and poor January and February sales will be a direct reflection of fewer card sales in December.
- Volume Trends – Be advised, the last few weeks of December can be tricky when writing schedules. Historical trends usually indicate a slower season until just a few days before Christmas when volume starts to pick up. Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Monday this year. Please look closely at previous years’ sales trends to know what to expect and how to staff the next two weeks.
