RECURRING TOPICS
- Upcoming Holidays – It’s fall! Now is a good time to take the opportunity to look ahead at the holiday calendar to begin general preparations for the upcoming holidays and how they may affect our business. Here is a brief list and synopsis on what sales volume to expect as it compares to normal sales (keeping COVID-19 sales trends in consideration) so that you may staff appropriately:
- Columbus Day (Oct 12) – Up 15%
- Halloween (Oct 31) – No change
- Daylight Saving Time Ends (Nov 1) – Up 25%
- Election Day (Nov 3)- Up 30% (because it’s a presidential election this year; otherwise about 20% increase)
- Veterans Day (Nov 11) – Up 30%
- Day before Thanksgiving (Nov 25) – Up 20%
- Thanksgiving Day (Nov 26) – In many locations volume is the same as a normal Thursday, but we are only open from 8am-12pm, so you do the same volume in only 4 hours. Makes for a busy rush, so be prepared
- Day after Thanksgiving (Nov 27) – Very busy. Up 75-150% from a normal Friday. Sometimes even busier than Saturday or Sunday of that weekend.
- Christmas: The week leading up to Christmas Day (whenever the kids get out of school; probably Dec 21 or 22 this year) begins to get busy. Each weekday is 50-75% up on a normal weekday. Christmas Eve often does the equivalent sales volume as a busy Saturday or soft Sunday. We are closed Christmas Day (only day of the year) and then December 26 will be a busy Saturday, 27th will be a busy Sunday, and 28-31 will be the equivalent of Saturday-like sales. We often set weekly sales records during this week. No ‘one day’ is like a ‘Mother’s-Day-kind-of-busy’, but each day is busier than normal, which makes for an over-all busy week. You will want as much staff available throughout this week as possible.
- New Year’s Day (Friday Jan 1) – Up 100% (ie, double your normal Friday sales). Other than Thanksgiving Day, this is the only day of the year that our hours change because we open late. Hours are 8am-3pm.
- That following weekend will be normal strong Sat and Sun. Then business falls off on Monday, Jan 4. At that point, cut staff and start cleaning!
